1. Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported that:

When a man declares his wife unlawful for himself, that is an oath which must be atoned, and he said: There is in the Messenger of Allah Almighty Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) a noble pattern for you.

2. Narrated to Hazrat Anas:

The ‘Prophet was the best and the bravest amongst the people. Once, the people of Medina got terrified at night, so they went in the direction of the noise (that terrified them). The Prophet (PBUH) met them (on his way back) after he had found out the truth. He was riding an unsaddled horse belonging to Abu Talha, and a sword was hanging by his neck, and he was saying, “Don’t be afraid! Don’t be afraid!” He further said, “I found it (the horse) very fast,” or said, “This horse is speedy.

3. Narrated to Sahl bin Sad As-Saeedi:

Hazrat Uwaimir Al-Ajlani came to Asim bin Ad Al-Ansari and said to him, O Asim! Suppose a man saw another man with his wife, would he kill him after which you would kill him, or what should he do? Please, O Asim, ask about this on my behalf.” Asim asked Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) about it. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) disliked that question and considered it disgraceful. What `Asim heard from Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) was hard on him. When Asim returned to his family, ‘Uwaimir came to him and said, “O Asim! What did Allah’s Messenger (PBUH). Say to you? Asim said to Uwaimir, You never bring me any good. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) disliked the problem I asked him about. Uwaimir said, “By Allah, I will not give up this matter until I ask the Prophet (PBUH) about it.” So Uwaimir proceeded till he came to Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) among people and said, O Allah’s Messenger (PBUH)! If a man sees another man with his wife, would he kill him, at which point you would kill him, or what should he do? Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said, “Allah has revealed some decree regarding you and your wife’s case. Go and bring her.” So they carried out the process of Lian while I was present among the people with Allah’s Messenger (PBUH). When they had finished their Lian, ‘Uwaimir said, “O Allah’s Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)! If I should now keep her with me as a wife, I have told a lie.” So he divorced her thrice before Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) ordered him. (Ibn Shihab said: So divorce was the tradition for all those involved in a Lian case.

4. Fatima bint Qais reported that:

Abu Amar bin Hafs divorced her absolutely when he was away from home, and he sent his agent to her with some barley. She was displeased with him and when he said: I swear by Allah that you have no claim on us. she went to Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) and mentioned that to him. He said: There is no maintenance due to you from him, and he commanded her to spend the ‘Iddat in the house of Umm Sharik, but then said: That is a woman whom my companions visit. So better spend this period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man and yon can put off your garments. And when the ‘Idda is over, inform me. She said: When my period of ‘Idda was over, I mentioned to him that Muawiya b. Abu Sufyan and Jahm had sent a proposal of marriage to me, whereupon Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: As for Abu Jahm, he does not put down his staff from his shoulder, and as for Muawiya, he is a poor man having no property; marry Usama b. Zaid. I objected to him, but he again said: Marry Usama; so I married him. Allah blessed therein and I was envied (by others).

In this Surah, Allah explained Certain limitations to the law of divorce. The apostate and disobedient chastised for their sin. True believers exhorted to faith in Muhammad. Allah hath created the seven heavens.
