Few Important Incident in virtues of Surah Al-Fatiha
We mention some famous incidents related to Surah Al-Fatiha.
1. Cure for Snake Sting/Poison/Pain/Illness:
Imam Bukhari narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri that Some of the companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went on a journey till they reached some of the Arab tribes. They asked the latter to treat them as guests, but they refused. A snake then bit the chief of that tribe, and they tried their best to cure him but could not do so. Some of them said (to the others), “Nothing has benefited him. Will you go to the people who resided here at night, it may be that some of them might possess something. They went to the group of the companions and said, “A snake has bitten our chief, and we have tried everything, but he has not benefited. Have you got anything to treat ?” One of them replied, “Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it.” They agree to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited (Surat-ul-Fatiha): ‘All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds’ and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain, and got up and started walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them suggested dividing their earnings among themselves, but the one who performed the recitation said, “Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet (PBUH) and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order.” So, they went to Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) and narrated the story. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) asked, “How did you come to know that Suratul- Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?” Then he added, “You have done the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a share for me as well.” The Prophet (PBUH) smiled thereupon.
(Sahih Al-Bukhari: 2276)
2. Narrated from Sahar At-Tamimi
Sahar at-Tamimi narrated to his Uncle that He came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and embraced Islam. He came back from him and passed some people Where; one of them had a lunatic fettered in chains. His people said: We are told that your companion has brought some good. Have you something with which you can cure him? Then I recited Surat al-Fatihah, and he was cured. He became delighted, and they gave me one hundred sheep. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and told him of it. He asked: Is it only this? The narrator, Musaddad, said in his other version: Did you say anything other than this? I said: No. He said: Take it, for, by my life, some accept it for a worthless chain, but you have done so for a genuine one.
(Sunan-Abu Dawood: 3896)
Conclusion
Surah al-Fatiha is the first and most crucial surah in the Quran. Many Hadith exist that indicate that it is also the best surah of the Quran. Any Muslim learning and reading the Quran will always start with Surah al-Fatiha. That is because this surah is essential for reading the five daily salah. Without Surah al-Fatiha, you can’t offer Salah, and if you don’t offer Salah, you transgress against Allah. The Prophet (PBUH) said that prayer is the difference between faith and disbelief.
Surah al-Fatiha is essentially like a prayer, and it’s pretty symbolic that it is right at the beginning of the Quran.
The final verse of this surah is mighty in this regard as the reciter asks Allah to guide him to the straight path of the righteous believers.
Several significant Hadith collections record the Hadith where the Prophet (PBUH) told a companion about the ‘greatest surah’ in the Quran as we mentioned 2 Hadith above.
